The suite itself was a sanctuary: a spacious bedroom with an irresistibly plush bed, a separate living area that could be elegantly partitioned, and a spa-like bathroom featuring a deep soaking tub and a rainfall shower.
But what truly set my visit apart was the exclusive Afternoon Tea experience, a first-of-its-kind offering outside of Mayfair, London. The Maybourne’s sister property, the iconic Claridge’s, has brought its storied tea tradition to Beverly Hills, and for a high tea enthusiast like myself, this was a dream come true.
Set amidst the hotel’s lush courtyard, the experience began with a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne, followed by a spot of Claridge’s Blend tea, a signature selection curated by world-renowned tea expert Henrietta Lovell of the Rare Tea Co.. Lovell’s carefully sourced teas celebrate both heritage and innovation, drawing from some of the world's most esteemed tea gardens.
The afternoon tea menu was a delightful fusion of British tradition and California flair. Delicate tea sandwiches were served alongside a Sonora flour soft taco, filled with grilled lobster, yam, cilantro, and lime, reflecting the region’s vibrant flavors. Of course, no tea would be complete without Claridge’s signature scones, perfectly paired with Cornish clotted cream and Marco Polo gelée. As for the pastries? A feast for both the eyes and the palate—lemon meringue tarts, strawberry Eton mess, chocolate palet with pistachio praline, and a stunning vanilla Saint-Honoré rounded out the experience.
After tea, I retreated to the rooftop pool, where the view stretched from the city skyline all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The modern pool deck, complete with stylish cabanas, offered a sun-drenched haven, while the adjacent lounge provided a shaded escape for those looking to relax in a more intimate setting.
