If you’re seeking a Scottish countryside getaway with all the trimmings of luxury, check out Balbinny. It’s a development of luxurious self-catering accommodations set on a family farm. Set in rural Angus, Balbinny is easily accessible, providing country living with none of the drawbacks of isolation.
The cities of Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen and St Andrews are all within an hour drive. Also, Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh can be reached within an hour and a half.
Balbinny is home to two distinct styles of accommodation – grass roofed Brochs nestled into the landscape and larger Steadings.
I stayed in the Clova steading and it’s quite spacious and embodies modern luxury. The ground floor featured two en suite bedrooms featuring beautiful views of the Angus Glens through bi-folding glass doors.
Heading up the elegant oak and glass staircase, you’ll find an immaculate kitchen with modern amenities. The kitchen straddles a large open planned living room with a stylish sofa topped with a Scottish tartan blanket and pillows. There’s a flat screen television and music is provided wirelessly via Sonos.
Head out onto the glass fronted heated balcony and take in 180-degree views of the Cairgorm Mountains. You might spot even spot a herd of highland cows roaming about the field!
Walking around the property, I stumbled upon the Brochs nestled at the foot of the wood by the pond. With reclaimed stone from the original farm steading and grass roofs, the brochs blend seamlessly into the country landscape. The interior design and amenities are similar to the steadings, however, each Broch features a Swedish wood burning hot tub.
Leisure facilities at Balbinny are centered around the stunning glass fronted indoor pool, spa and gym complex. Both the swimming pool and 6-person Jacuzzi are heated using environmentally friendly air source technology.
We made a couple of day trips to both Dundee and St. Andrews. Dundee, the City of Discovery has an impressive industrial history and is home to the new Victoria & Albert Museum. There are great shops and restaurants to explore as well.
Balbinny is serene, tranquil, and the perfect place to relax and recharge while enjoying the beauty of Scotland.
