The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa is a sweet escape in Northern California’s Wine Country. It’s one of a few hotels in the United States to feature natural hot-springs mineral water flowing more than 1,000 feet below the hotel, filling its pools and spa. Originally built in 1927 in the style of California’s early missions, it has an intriguing past and is a member of the Historic Hotel of America. This well-known Fairmont property was renovated in the late 20th century and today it has modern amenities including a golf course, spa and a Michelin-awarded restaurant.
Upon checking-in I was offered a glass of chilled sparkling wine and after a long drive in the Summer heat it tasted magnificent! Wandering the grounds while heading to my suite, I noticed the main pool surrounded by cabanas, fire pits to enjoy for chilly nights, and tranquil water fountains that made white noise that is oh so soothing!
I then headed to my suite and was pleased to find a complimentary bottle of red wine and large Jacuzzi tub waiting for me. The hotel offers a wide variety of accommodations ranging from guest rooms to suites. The Legacy Suite Collection is the top tier accommodation and includes the iconic William Sonoma Suite filled with furniture, lighting and accessories from Williams Sonoma Home.
If you need some rest and relaxation head to Willow Stream Spa, a 40,000-square-foot space featuring mineral baths, a sauna, steam room, and watsu pool. The water temperature varies from pool to pool. The Watsu pool is kept at body temperature; the indoor spa is somewhat warmer; and the spa’s main pool hovers around 85° (but the main pool is open to hotel guests only).
The Fairmont Sonoma is a wine country oasis where one can relax and recharge. There’s an array of offerings onsite to keep you entertained. The spa is delightful and its easy to spend a full day there. If you feel like going offsite there’s many historic sites and wineries to explore.
Overall, I had a wonderful stay at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa and look forward to visiting again.
