The Glendeven Inn & Lodge is an idyllic farmstead lodging destination on the Mendocino Coast that offers a luxurious and rejuvenating escape to nature. It sits on fifteen acres and features four beautiful buildings (dating back to the 1800s), a modern lodge, and a gorgeous garden where the innkeeper sources vegetables along with an array of herbs and unique flowers. There are five and a half hours of hiking trails that are accessible right from the Inn’s front door. Guests can take walks along the sea and through some of the oldest trees on earth.
I stayed in the Bayview Suite, a two room ocean-view corner suite, where supposedly Bill and Hillary once stayed. Upon arrival there was a bottle of crisp Husch Chardonnay, comforting oatmeal cookies, and a thoughtful hand-written note waiting for me. These thoughtful gestures always stick in my mind.
Walking out onto the expansive balcony I took in beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and breathed in the clean coastal air. I also had a view of the three llamas: Dolly, High Hope, and PJ chilling in the pasture.
I slept like a baby on the the plush queen feather bed with cozy soft linens and each morning at 9am I looked forward to a complimentary gourmet three-course cooked breakfast delivered to my room. It was delivered in a basket and included a daily egg dish featuring fresh vegetables and herbs from the garden.
Fresh eggs are one component of the complimentary breakfast. Each egg dish is accompanied by homemade baked goods, yogurt with fruit, fresh squeezed organic orange juice, and coffee. I especially enjoyed the huevos rancheros one morning and it paired perfectly with freshly baked corn bread and honey to drizzle on top.
The expansive chicken coop is a sight to see and features Blue Favaucanas and Cream Legbar chickens. We were given some chicken feed and quickly made friends with the flock. 🙂
If you need some suggestions for things to do and see in the area, there’s a Concierge on duty at the lodge. Some fun activities include the famous Skunk Train where guests can step back in time for a magical ride through the redwoods. Also, an ocean kayak tour where one can be guided by a professional through sea caves and rock gardens. Lastly, whale-watching tours during the whale’s migration off the Mendocino Coast from December through April.
Being a wine lover, I was excited to find a Mendocino County only wine barn onsite serving bottles for onsite or offsite enjoyment. The inn is located just two miles south of the famed Mendocino Village and is close to restaurants, shops, galleries, and all of the North Mendocino Coast attractions.
Glendeven Inn & Lodge’s peaceful ambiance puts guests at ease and you’ll leave feeling recharged by the power of ancient redwoods and refreshing sea air.
I’ve never been to Mendocino. Thank you for sharing this lovely inn and lodge you’ve discovered! This is where I’m staying when I travel to Mendocino.
