Located just a block off San Francisco’s Union Square, Hotel Emblem is an exciting hotel with a Beat Generation theme.
Upon walking into its lobby, one will find a book-lined writer’s alcove and portraits of Beat Generation icons such as Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac. This immediately sets the moods and gives you the sense of being in a creative haven.
At check-in, I was warmly greeted and offered housemade sangria and a hot towel. I stayed in an Emblem Premier King room that was quite intimate, eclectic, and felt like a 1950s writer’s apartment. It overlooked a tree-filled courtyard and featured a writing desk topped with an inspiration board pinned with postcards, photos, and more.
If one would like another drink or light bite to eat, Obscenity Bar & Lounge onsite will satisfy them. It’s a seductive, low-lit spot named for the obscenity trial kicked off by Beat poet Allen Ginsberg’s signature work, Howl. The bar has a chill vibe and is a great spot to hang with friends while shooting a game or two of pool on the table located just off to the side of the lounge.
Being a fan of the Australian inspired coffee shop, Bluestone Lane, I was pleased to find one next door. With Bluestone Lane for breakfast and the Obscenity Bar for late night libations, Hotel Emblem is the perfect place to start and end your day.
Being just a block off of Union Square and located at the foot of Nob Hill, Hotel Emblem is a fantastic launching pad from which to explore San Francisco. With great vibes and a prime location, Hotel Emblem is a great stay in SF and it wears its artistic inspiration on its sleeve. If you’re seeking a boutique hotel with a cool character, look no further!
