Escape to The Madden Suite, a charming apartment in the heart of downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea. It’s located on the upper floor of a courtyard that includes several businesses, including the popular Toro Sushi Bar. It’s also just steps away from charming shops, galleries, and the iconic Hog’s Breath Inn, formerly owned by Clint Eastwood. The suite has a fascinating history as it once operated as a clubhouse for famed football coach and announcer, John Madden.
The exterior of The Madden Suite looks like something out of a storybook. Inside, it’s a 800-square-foot newly remodeled residence with two bedrooms and one bathroom. There are vaulted ceilings, skylights and handcrafted plaster walls. The living room is a perfect gathering spot with a large HDTV, vintage Carmel stone fireplace, and a treasure chest of fun games.
Upon arrival, there was a beautifully presented cheese board, bottle of local wine, and handwritten note from the Sanctuary Vacation Rentals Team. In addition, pamphlets for recommended activities, restaurants, and tasting rooms to visit in the area. I was pleased to know there was an assigned concierge vacation house manager available to assist me during my stay.
In The Madden Suite, there’s a convenient kitchenette with refrigerator, small bar sink, oven and stove which was nice to have for preparing meals and snacks. Adjacent to it is a dining table that seats six and is topped with elegant place settings. It was nice to have the option to dine in and have a calm night, or go out on the town for dinner.
The bathroom is quite spacious and includes double sinks, spa amenities, and bathrobes. Both bedrooms have king-size beds and are topped with luxury bedding. I slept very well each evening.
The Madden Suite is a quintessential Carmel charmer and I love how it’s tucked away (just enough) from all the action and offers a peaceful setting. It was my first time staying at a Sanctuary Vacation Rentals property and overall, I was very pleased with my experience as it felt like a home away from home.
