Located in the Russian River Valley, Thomas George Estates exemplifies an idyllic Sonona escape. For those in the know, the Russian River Valley offers one of the best terroirs anywhere in which to grow and produce pinot noir and chardonnay.
The winery was established in 2008 when Tom Baker acquired the estate of celebrated winemaker, Davis Bynum. The grounds of Thomas George Estates are immaculately groomed, full of lush vegetation with many spots to sit and relax with a glass of vino in hand.
My boyfriend, Matthew and I experienced the Single Vineyard Outdoor Reserve Tasting and sat in the picnic area surrounded by beautiful roses. We sampled six Single Vineyard Estate Wines which paired perfectly with an estate made pizza.
If one is seeking a bit of action they can play a game of bocce or hop in the estate’s Vintage Pinzgauer and take a tour up to their Baker Ridge Vineyard. It’s there where one will experience the most spectacular 360 degree view of the Russian River Valley. In addition, the winery has a spectacular 8,000-square-foot underground cave that’s worth checking out. It provides the perfect ambiance for wine tastings and events.
The estate includes three guest houses for wine club members and we stayed in the Grenache House, a charming, light-filled cottage with a bedroom, living room and kitchen facilities. It has an open concept and is perfect for couples. The front deck is complete with a dining table, barbecue and from it, one can enjoy views of nearby vineyards and the winery’s beautiful estate gardens. Steps alongside the cottage lead to a private rear deck with a hot tub.
Upon arrival, we received a complimentary welcome package that included fresh eggs from the Estate resident pasture raised chickens, milk, coffee, tea and a bottle of Thomas George Estates’ Rose of Grenache. A very kind and thoughtful gesture!
I had a wonderful stay and experience at Thomas George Estates. Their wines are wonderful, the hospitality is tremendously kind while the ambiance is stunning! I look forward to visiting again in the future.
