When traveling along Napa’s St. Helena Highway with miles and miles of wineries, it can be a bit overwhelming! When in Napa, one the hardest decisions that you have to make during your visit is what wineries to visit.
Make an appointment in advance to stop at Nickel & Nickel for a tour and tasting. You will not be disappointed 🙂
Nickel & Nickel is devoted exclusively to producing 100 percent varietal, single-vineyard wines that best express the distinctive personality of each vineyard. The winery is best known for its Cabernet Sauvignon, although a small collection of Chardonnay, Merlot, and Syrah complements their portfolio.
When I walked into the charming, white Sullenger house I was immediately greeted with a glass of Chardonnay in hand.
Nickel & Nickel Tour Guide, Alyse Thomas took us on a tour of the winery and educated us about what it takes for Nickel & Nickel’s wine to go from grape to glass! She even educated us about the diverse soil types in Napa Valley…who knew there is a total of 33?
We then strolled through a historic authentic post-and-beam fermentation barn and underground barrel aging cellar. The cellar was beautiful, dimly lit, and I couldn’t get enough of its delicious aroma..a mix of oak from the barrels and aging wine. The tour ended with a seated, guided tasting of a selection of four single-vineyard cabernet wines. The tasting also included three different cheeses (Piave, Beemster Classic, and Midnight Moon).
Who’s ready to pop the cork and try Nickel & Nickel’s distinctive single-vineyard wines?
Did both sister wineries you recommended. Thank you for steering me in the right direction. You sure know your wines! Cheers to you!
