I am Rachel Dickinson, one of the interns who is lucky enough to work with the prestigious Videofashion. It is the world’s premiere producer and distributor of fashion programming for TV, internet, and mobile. Videofashion covers women’s and men’s designer collections each year in the fashion capitals of the world, New York, London, Milan, and of course, Paris.
My daily work varies from being a spot-marker to videographers’ assistant who goes from show to show to pick up footage, then to deliver the footage to the Videofashion headquarters.
Thanks to the wonderful Videofashion team, I got to experience some of the most exclusive behind-the-scenes preparation by various designers during the New York Fashion Week 2014.
Let me share with you some of the backstage goings-on at Marc by Marc Jacobs. It was exciting and in a way, organized chaos. There were photographers and videographers inside and outside of the venue, working to capture footage of editors, bloggers, celebrities, and of course, designer Marc Jacobs. Additionally, the models were moving from hair to makeup while the journalists were interviewing the hairstylists and makeup artists about the beauty looks for the new collection. Amid the non-stop activities, I was fortunate enough to nab a quick interview with the Makeup Artist Dick Page about the show’s simple “morning-after makeup” look.
The Marc by Marc Jacobs runway was amazing, as it resembled a modern skate park filled with ramps and hills. I had a huge adrenaline rush just to watch everyone rushed to create a short magical moment of a fashion show.
Onto the next show, Nautica Black Sail, where I worked as the videographer’s assistant. There I was standing in the “pit,” surrounded by hundreds of photographers and videographers who were crammed into one small space at the end of the runway. These media professionals worked for well-known media outlets such as Vogue, WWD, and the Associated Press. They worked so well and efficiently to capture the needed images.
I have always enjoyed looking at the images and footage of fashion shows online, but I never thought about the hard work and harsh conditions these photographers and videographers have to endure in order to produce the beautiful images and gorgeous photos. It was really an educational experience for me to be exposed to these hard working professionals and witnessing all those behind-the-scenes activities.
By the way, I am also an amateur photographer so I hope you will enjoy a personal backstage pass via some of my behind-the-scenes photos with Videofashion.
Backstage at Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2014, Makeup Artist Dick Page discussed how to create the simple, “morning after makeup” look showcased.
Behind-the-scenes at Frank Tell’s Autumn/Winter 2014 Dree Collection runway show, Makeup Artist Vincent Longo creates bold brows with a round shape and a matte canvas.
Great post!!!! Looks like you had a wonderful experience working behind the scenes during fashion week!
Thanks for sharing your behind the scenes experience. Sounds fun and exciting.
