Rombauer Vineyards’ second annual Lake Tahoe Weekend was a member-exclusive event filled with world-class events, exquisite cuisine, and a wide array of activities that showcased the breathtaking beauty of the Sierra Riviera.
Rombauer produces wines of exceptional quality and with each glass of Rombauer wine one has they can expect the same consistent taste that leaves a lasting impression and keeps one coming back for more.
This goes for their events as well. I’ve attended many of them over the years and after a taste, one can’t get enough.
Rombauer’s Lake Tahoe Weekend kicked off on a Thursday evening with a warm welcome barbeque at Commons Beach in Tahoe City. There was a grand spread of food accompanied by a delightful selection of Rombauer wines. Guests had the opportunity to pick up their welcome bags filled with fine Rombauer swag and mix and mingle with other club members.
On Friday morning we embarked on a kayaking adventure on the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tahoe. Departing from Tahoe City, we glided along the scenic West Shore, feasting our eyes on historic homes and awe-inspiring landscapes. Our knowledgeable guide enriched the journey with tales about Lake Tahoe and its landmarks. When we got to shore, we raised our glasses and toasted to the fun morning adventure with chilled Rombauer Sauvignon Blanc. It sure does taste even more delightful on a warm Summer day!
During the same time on Friday, there was a Riedel Glass Class happening that combined a touch of nerdiness with a lot of fun! The class focused on the impact of wine glassware on the taste of the wine. Each participant received a set of Riedel Performance Glassware to keep, and had the opportunity to swirl, sniff, and sip four Rombauer wines using different shaped glasses.
After the morning activity, we had free time to explore at our leisure before reuniting with the group for a delectable three-course wine dinner at the renowned Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge. Entrees included soy-ginger seared salmon in a cilantro coconut broth and panko crusted chicken with wild mushroom and spinach ragout. I of course had to save room for Kimo’s original hula pie! It’s a signature dessert of the restaurant that’s dangerously delicious and features a chocolate cookie crust, macadamia nut ice cream, hot fudge, toasted mac nuts, and whipped cream.
The meal was accompanied by the following wonderful Rombauer wines:
- 2021 Proprietor Selection Chardonnay
- 2022 Sauvignon Blanc
- 2020 El Dorado Zinfandel
- 2019 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
The tables were set family style and it was fun to mix and mingle with other club members. During the dinner, Rombauer’s President and CEO, Bob Knebel gave a nice speech.
On Saturday around noon we stepped aboard the Tahoe Gal for a lunch cruise to Emerald Bay. I was warmly welcomed with a glass of Rombauer Pinot Noir, then made my way up to the sky deck. As the boat glided along the shoreline we took in the sights and captivating beauty of Lake Tahoe.
For lunch I indulged in prime rib and it paired nicely with Rombauer’s Zinfandel. There were salmon, chicken, and vegetarian options as well.
Following the cruise, we had the rest of the day to explore and savor the beauty and charm of Lake Tahoe.
As the weekend drew to a close, Sunday offered a farewell brunch at the iconic restaurant Jake’s on the Lake. We bid farewell to newfound friends and said goodbye to sparkling Lake Tahoe.
Rombauer’s 2023 Lake Tahoe Weekend offered a unique blend of culinary delights and adventure in a stunning location. The delectable Rombauer wines made it all the more memorable. I had a wonderful time and I hope to attend Rombauer’s next Lake Tahoe Weekend!

Incredible experience. Will Rombauer do this again next year? Their wines are my favorite. Especially their Zin and Chardonnay. Cheers
