If you’re craving a taste of Thailand, but don’t feel like hopping on a long flight, consider Bann at Oak Knoll in Napa Valley. It’s a resort-style bed and breakfast that’s opulent and rich with Thai culture, cuisine and comforts.
Bann translates to “home” in Thai and each room feels like an affluent house designed with a rich color palette. One can expect luxurious details such as floor-to-ceiling drapes and hand-painted,18-karat-gold sinks. There are also beautifully crafted furnishings and decorations, many of them being imported from Thailand.
Bann at Oak Knoll is the first hotel venture for Osha Thai restauranteur, Lalita Souksamlane and it’s located on a beautiful secluded vineyard. Each of the five rooms face the vineyard and are uniquely decorated to resemble a particular region of Thailand.
Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted and led to an open-air pergola for check-in. Shortly after I indulged in the welcome afternoon tea that included a wonderful assortment of sweet and savory bites on a beautiful tiered stand. It sat atop of a white tablecloth and a tea set that was fit for royalty.
I stayed in the Wieng Ping room inspired by the Northern Lanna Kingdom of Thailand. The region’s traditional bright color scheme of gold and orange was incorporated into the decor and a favorite feature was the chandelier inspired by the “Kra Boong” rattan rice basket.
The hotel has an open-air concept as rooms are connected by a long, L-shaped deck. Pergolas are scattered throughout and it creates a nice environment for outdoor dining and lounging. While onsite, guests can enjoy the heated salt pool and hot tub or take a stroll through the on-site gardens and vines.
The second course included their signature butter croissants that are freshly baked every day accompanied by a variety of other breads.
Each morning I looked forward to a 3-course gourmet breakfast prepared with fresh local ingredients. Again, a white tablecloth table was set for royalty under the pergola and the first course included seasonal fruits from a local orchard and either tea or coffee.
For the third course, Chef Lalita created an “East Meets West” breakfast selection for everyday dining and these items include: Thai Pan Eggs, Classic Chicken Pho, French Toast, and more.
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll be ready to explore the wine country. There are plenty of wineries in the area and downtown Napa is 10 minutes away and features wonderful shops, tasting rooms, and restaurants. During my stay, I had dinner at the Osha Thai restaurant in downtown Napa and I enjoyed delicious Thai cuisine in an elegant environment.
From delicious Thai cuisine to opulent interiors, there are many unique details that make Bann at Oak Knoll a very special and memorable stay in Napa Valley.
