Celebrating the holidays in the city has long been an exciting experience for me. Since I was child, I have always looked forward to holiday excursions to San Francisco for both the festiveness of the city and the cheer that greets you at its hotels and shops. Each year, the Palace Hotel creates an extraordinary holiday experience for both guests and visitors.
While the winter cold of San Francisco may have you thinking that you’re at the North Pole, the warmth of the Palace lobby beckons to those passing by with its giant ornaments hanging outside.
Once inside the hotel, you are greeted with a grand Christmas tree situated in the center of the iconic dining room, The Garden Court. Above, there’s a stunning dome stained glass ceiling and Austrian crystal chandeliers are scattered throughout. It’s the perfect setting for memorable dining experiences and has been the venue for many historical events. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson hosted various events there and it has long been an iconic place that’s part of San Francisco’s history.
I’ve dined at The Garden Court on various occasions, but this holiday season I experienced their Holiday City Brunch for the first time. Upon arrival at my table located next to the Christmas tree, I was warmly greeted and offered hot coffee as well as Champagne. After settling in, I explored the various food stations that included:
- Prime rib and seafood bar with crab claws, oysters, and caviar with various accouterments
- Omelets that are cooked to order
- American breakfast buffet with waffles, French toast, breakfast potatoes, sausage, bacon and other items.
- Salad bar
- Fresh fruits
Last and definitely not least, the dessert bar included a variety of festive delights such as eggnog panna cotta, carrot cake, holiday cookies, etc.
If you’re looking to meet up with friends and/or family and grab a more casual bite to eat, the Pied Piper is a great spot. It serves up comforting food, along with classic and innovative cocktails. I stopped by for appetizers and drinks and found the service to be amongst the best I’ve come across in the city!
Other fun holiday offerings at The Palace for guests include a Santa Swim at the beautiful indoor pool where one can hang out on festive floats, listen to festive music, and enjoy holiday treats. Also, “Letters to Santa” where guests of all ages can send letters to Santa guaranteed to arrive in time for Christmas.
The Palace continues to be a timeless classic when it comes to San Francisco accommodations. From the lobby to the rooms, everything oozes class. Rooms are in great condition and feature all the modern amenities one would expect from a new hotel – though the Palace has been around for over a century now!
All that history and class is tied up with a ribbon when it comes to the Holidays. As such, I’d suggest stopping by even if you’re not looking for a room!
