Cibolo Creek Ranch sits on 30,000 acres and is the finest luxury resort in West Texas and the Big Bend. It was established in 1857 and known to be “the spot” where American icons play – if only the rustic walls could speak!
Upon arrival, we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a King Courtyard Room that’s attached to a Saddle Room. In the mornings, we woke up to horses saying hello right outside our window! The 600-thread count sheets and Molton Brown toiletries added a luxurious touch to the rustic room.
For each meal, we headed to the ranch-style dining room to enjoy authentic Southwestern cuisine and take in lake and mountain views. I found the dining experience to be quite unique as the breakfast and lunch menus feature a variety of dishes that take in the local culture and cuisine.
Come dinner, I was disappointed to find that there wasn’t a menu. Everything is decided in advance and guests come along for the ride! However, by the end of the meal I was quite happy with the caesar salad, pork tenderloin and apple pie that I had been served. The service was friendly and accommodating, especially as they even gave Matthew a second slice of pie!
At Cibolo Creek Ranch, you’ll never be bored as there’s a long list of activities for guests to partake in! Everything from Hummer rides, mountain biking, ATVs, fishing, hunting and shooting. Matthew and I went horseback riding to Cibolo Springs, a natural spring that bubbles out of the rocky mountainside. We rode along the ridges of the surrounding valley and it felt like a truly wild west experience!
Overall, I enjoyed Cibolo Creek Ranch as it’s a cool ranch with a lot of history and interesting architecture. It’s definitely the premier place to stay in West Texas – especially with its own landing strip for those flying in by private plane!
About 20 minutes away from the ranch is downtown Marfa. It’s an artsy town that springs up out of nowhere. In town, I enjoyed wandering the hipster shops, food trucks, and I liked the vibe a lot!
Located about 20 minutes from downtown Marfa, in Valentine, we found the insta-famous Prada store. As I drove through the desert, I enjoyed seeing all kinds of interesting art installations.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, a lot of restaurants and shops in downtown Marfa were only open a couple days a week.
Here’s the lowdown on places that I have and plan to visit in Marfa!
