Situated on thirty-four acres of beautiful Scottish land just a few miles outside of Stirling sits Cromlix Hotel, a beautiful five-star mansion owned by tennis superstar, Sir Andy Murray. Pulling up to the hotel, I was struck by the spectacular Scottish architecture and eye-catching turrets covered in ivy.
In my grand suite, a bottle of chilled Delamotte Champagne and box of artisan chocolates awaited my arrival, making one feel like royalty.
My suite was very spacious, complete with a living room and marble lined bathroom featuring both a silver clawfoot tub and double shower.
Venturing down a floor, I found a full size “snooker” table (pool table) set amongst wood lined walls and stuffed deer looking back at me. It was definitely the most ornate game room I’ve ever come across!
If you’re still up for some more games, outside you’ll find a professional tennis court, croquet, and lawn chess. Considering you can order drinks and continue playing games outside, I’d suggest grabbing a chilled alcoholic beverage that pairs with a round of croquet. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a beautiful day!
After playing a few games, consider taking a walk around the property. There’s a lake less than five minutes from the hotel. You’ll find it very easy to wander the property at your own speed while taking in the surroundings.
When you need a bite to eat, head to Chez Roux restaurant onsite. It was originally overseen by the late legendary French chef Albert Roux, but it’s now overseen by his son Michel Roux Jr, and is run by award-winning executive head chef, Darin Campbell. The restaurant is housed in a glass-walled conservatory overlooking the stunning grounds. The extensive open kitchen offers diners a ringside view of the chefs at work.
The restaurant’s menu is subject to change depending on available local produce. It was cool to see a Kitchen Garden onsite where Chefs can pick fresh produce to feature in dishes served to guests.
For dinner, we dined on wild garlic tagliatelle with Scotch ox cheeks, and pecorino, in addition to a light and flaky white fish paired with an indulgent leek and pancetta risotto. The service was top notch and everything tasted divine!
The following morning, I had a simple breakfast of yogurt and granola delivered to my suite and it was perfectly presented!
Overall, Cromlix Hotel is the perfect Scottish countryside getaway! If you can, try spending a few days there to really enjoy all that Cromlix has to offer.
