Perched on a cliff overlooking the breathtaking Big Sur coastline, Hyatt Carmel Highlands is an iconic hotel that has served as a sanctuary for artists and discerning travelers since its opening in 1917.
It’s located four miles from Carmel-by-the-Sea where one can stroll its charming downtown and discover shops, art galleries, tasting rooms, and restaurants. Head south on Highway 1 and explore the breathtaking Big Sur coastline. Even though there’s quite a lot to see and do in the area, I found it quite hard to leave the hotel. It offers the perfect environment to relax and recharge!
The property doubles as a Hyatt Residence Club and a hotel. It’s not a single building but multiple buildings spread across the property. There are modern amenities like a fitness center with Hyatt StayFit features, a heated swimming pool, and three outdoor hot tubs. The hotel offers a variety of room and suite types, but I’d suggest booking a suite with a deep soaking tub that overlooks the Point Lobos coast – you won’t regret it!
A meal at its award-winning restaurant, Pacific’s Edge is a must! Guests can dine al fresco on an expansive 1,200-square-foot deck or indoors where there’s floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a louvered roof. Guests can soak up the beauty and wonderful ambiance from wherever they chose to sit.
If one is seeking lighter fare, head to Sunset Lounge, an intimate glass-enclosed space where guests can sip and socialize while taking in panoramic views. One may even catch glimpses of migrating whales and dolphins from the windows.
Hyatt Carmel Highlands is a gem and it’s the perfect destination for so many occasions – a family vacation, couples getaway, wedding, or a corporate retreat. It’s lovely ambiance with the sights and sounds of crashing waves, tropical plants, and crackling wood-burning fireplaces will put one in zen mode.
