Embarking on the Opus One Experience led by an Estate Ambassador provided an immersive journey into the winery’s rich history and winemaking practices. The wine tasting unfolded in the Partners’ Room, providing breathtaking views of vibrant vineyards through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows.
Lounging in luxury, we indulged in a selection of library wines, predominantly featuring Cabernet Sauvignon:
Opus One 2014 – It revealed a delicate bouquet of flowers and garden herbs. Fine tannins contributed to a velvety texture. Its luscious fusion of red cherry, blackberry, and cassis unfolded into dark fruit complexities with subtle notes of baking spice and black olive.
Opus One 2018 – A beautifully balanced wine that features aromas of blackberry, cassis, and black cherry. It’s harmonized with elegant notes of violets, white pepper, and rose petals. With 18 days of skin contact and 17 months of barrel aging in new French oak it presented a symphony of flavors.
Opus One 2019 – It opened with intense aromas of black currant, blueberry, black plum, and dried rose petals. Its creamy, satiny texture, complemented by fine-grained tannins, created a harmonious balance with rich dark fruit flavors, savory herbs, and cocoa.
Overture is a timeless tribute to Opus One estate vineyards. Extended barrel aging and the artful blending of wine-lots across vintages provides a supple structure and silky texture. It’s a true testament to the estate’s commitment to excellence.
After the wine tasting, we meandered down to the Barrel Room where meticulously arranged barrels crafted from the finest French oak stood in regimented rows. This is where the symphony of flavors, aromas, and textures harmonized, creating exceptional vintages that define Opus One’s legacy of uncompromising quality.
Opus One’s certification as a green winery, with over 100 environmentally friendly procedures, underscores its dedication to crafting exceptional wines while preserving the land for generations to come.
