Just a few miles outside of Arches National Park, along the extraordinarily scenic Highway 128, lies Sorrel River Ranch, a 240 acre oasis amongst the red rocks of Moab, Utah.
Situated on the Colorado River, Sorrel River Ranch is the closest you can get to America’s Wild West while still feeling comfortable and pampered.
Upon arrival, I found myself in a lush grassy landscape amongst the otherwise Mars-like setting of Moab. We stayed in a Mesa Studio overlooking the Colorado River and Arches National Park (located directly across the river).
Onsite you can go on short walks, long treks or even a horseback ride if you’re up for it! I went riding with Diane, a true cowgirl and friendly guide who took me up the red rock mesas on a private tour. The ride with Diane was more than I could have imagined! Not only was it exciting, it had me feeling like the star of a Western film! While riding with Diane, I found that there is perhaps no better way to take in America’s West than on horseback.
After the horseback ride, I went back to my room to freshen up and then headed to dinner at the River Grill. Their executive chef, culinary team and on-site gardener collaborate to turn farm-harvested ingredients into true local American classics.
I started out my evening with a nice strong cocktail and took in a gorgeous view of the sunset shining over the Colorado River.
When the menu was passed into my hands my eyes became far too big for my stomach. Everything sounded way too good and I wanted to order everything!
We finally decided on the Lobster Mac & Cheese, Snake River Farms strip steak, a thick and juicy ribeye, roasted brussel sprouts with goat cheese, golden raisins, and apple cider vinaigrette. We settled our sweet tooths with the most delicious and unique cherry cheesecake. It featured Luxardo cherries, a thick graham cracker crust, and the most velvety cheese – sounds heavenly, huh?
Having only spent one night at Sorrel River Ranch, I wished I had stayed longer. I dozed off dreaming of the next time that I would be back.
WOW, what an incredible experience in such a
