The Bank Hotel Istanbul, a Member of Design Hotels, is a modern yet historic hotel located in Karaköy, Istanbul’s former financial district. The building dates back to the 1860s and was formerly the headquarters of Crédit Général Ottoman Bank. Historical elements of the building have been preserved with the restoration of the hotel, for example, vaults in the basement that feature a two-foot-thick steel door and turning wheel.
Karaköy lies perfectly between historic Istanbul, Sultanahmet, and bohemian Istanbul, Beyoğlu. With a central location it’s the perfect base for exploring this enchanting city. Today, Karaköy has been reinvented as a cool cultural hub complete with hip bars, cafes and restaurants. On that note, the hotel has an in-house art curator so guests can admire the works of local artists throughout the hotel.
I stayed in a Deluxe King Room that was opulent yet contemporary. Designer, Sinan Kafadar incorporated warm and organic colors throughout and a stand out feature was the high ceilings with artistic details. The green Carrara marble bathroom with rain shower was quite luxurious and each morning I enjoyed lounging in my fluffy white robe and making a cup of coffee using the Julius Meinl espresso machine.
After getting ready, I made my way downstairs to enjoy a sumptuous Turkish breakfast in the stylish dining room with eclectic pops of color and abstract art. Guests can help themselves to the breakfast buffet featuring both Turkish and American delights. Also, there’s a menu with cook-to-order items.
After a long day on your feet exploring the city, you’re sure to be in need of a Turkish bath! The hotel spa offers a white marble Turkish Hamam, in addition to a sauna and steam rooms.
Before heading out for dinner, stop by the stylish, circular Gold Bar located on the same floor as the restaurant. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail.
Overall, I had a very memorable stay at The Bank Hotel. The service was kind, gracious and throughout my stay they were very helpful with providing recommendations for restaurants and activities. The hip and historic Bank Hotel is the perfect spot to relax and recharge in this vibrant city where East meets West.
