Set on the banks of the Bosphorus, The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul is where modern Turkish luxury meets tradition. Located in the heart of the city, it embraces a panoramic view of Istanbul that cradles the wonders of the Ottoman and Byzantine empires. With a history spanning 2,000 years and three major empires, Istanbul promises a fascinating adventure.
Upon arrival, my eyes were immediately drawn to the aquarium-like view of the Bosphorus through endless walls of windows. While everything seems to revolve around the dazzling view, the hotel is also known for its signature Ritz-Carlton service with a distinctly local touch. Overall, I was amazed by staff’s professionalism and strong attention to detail.
In 2018, the hotel underwent a multi-million dollar renovation and overall there are 243 renovated guest rooms and suites. The interior design is contemporary with opulent Ottoman flair. One can relax in an oversized marble bathroom outfitted with Iznik ceramic tiles. If you’re looking to soak like a Sultan, book the Presidential Suite – it has a spacious tub with a stunning view of the Bosphorus. One can lather up with luxurious Bulgari bath products.
Guests that book a suite have access to the exclusive Club Lounge. It offers a relaxing environment to enjoy Club Level amenities that include breakfast, light lunch, hors d’oeuvres, and delicious desserts. They are accompanied by complimentary wine and spirits. The Club Lounge also offers exclusive experiences such as Cultural Heritage Talks and a Turkish Coffee Workshop.
Dining at The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul intrigues the palate and senses with cuisine that’s fit for a Sultan himself. The hotel’s restaurant and bars offer Bosphorus views, locally sourced cuisine, as well as local and international wines. One can also indulge in world-renowned Japanese cuisine at the Nobu restaurant onsite that offers a cool and sophisticated environment.
The hotel’s facilities are excellent and if you need a day to relax and recharge, it’s the perfect place to do so. There’s an indoor pool under a ceiling of twinkling lights, a soaking tub, sauna, steam room, and fitness center. In the Summer months, guests can relax in the outdoor infinity pool.
Treat yourself to a unique spa experience at the hotel. Its centerpiece is a hammam, modeled after the 16th-century Turkish baths of Roxelana and it offers separate areas for ladies and gentlemen as well as a couple’s suite. In addition to body treatments, the spa offers facials and massages.
If you’re staying at the hotel, I’d suggest chatting with the Concierge since they can recommend a wide range of curated activities and experiences that provide an insider’s experience of Istanbul. A Bosphorus boat cruise was definitely a highlight and it was cool to sail on a body of water that lies in between Europe and Asia. I enjoyed learning about Istanbul’s fascinating history and seeing soaring domes, mosques, and palaces made by incredible architects and craftsmen. Make sure to plan a day trip to the Asian side of Istanbul so you can experience both sides for yourself.
The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul’s central location offers convenience to the city’s most compelling points of interest. Fifteen minutes away from the hotel is the opulent Topkapi Palace where sultans and their harems lived in utter decadence. The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and Grand Bazaar are other sights to see.
Istanbul’s nightlife is vibrant and the city offers some of the coolest bars and clubs. This city doesn’t sleep. Being a lover of Turkish treats, I was pleased to find some baklava and Turkish delight shops open late at night to settle my sweet tooth.
The Ritz-Carlton Istanbul is the perfect base for exploring this fascinating city. It offers the best of the best!
